Heritage Farm
Your company Name: Heritage Farm
What will you be bringing to the market this year?
Certified Naturally Grown produce, eggs, pork, sausages, bacon, chicken, duck, turkey, grass fed and finished beef and lamb. We also have a few rabbits on occasion.
How did your company get started? Lainya and I both grew up in farm oriented families and have gardened and had cattle for years. We owned and ran a commercial window/glass business for a long time but when the economy tanked in '07 and '08 we had to find a new way to make a living. We started Heritage Farm to create a home-based business where we could raise our children (4), homeschool them and integrate our family life into a new "heritage" for our children.
What do you wish people knew about your product?
I would want them to know how much time and effort we spend loving on and providing a quality environment for the animals we are entrusted to raise. We believe the food cycle we create is a very useful and healthy one and we put tremendous effort into making sure our livestock are loved, cared for, fed well, have the best life we can give them and are humanely harvested and processed. I would also like for them to know that in all our operations, both protein and vegetable, we maintain the highest standards of sourcing on seeds, feed, fertilizer, soil amendments and the like. Our farm only uses USDA certified organic feeds and we are Certified Naturally Grown. We are also a soy free and non GMO farm and believe our commitments in these areas sets us apart from most other farms.
What question do you never get sick of customers asking?
Can I have another pound of ........? (fill in the blank)
What is your favorite story?
My favorite stories are always of our four children (5yrs-18yrs). There are many to be told but I think to save them too much embarrassment we will tell them as we see you!! My most favorite though is how I've been blessed to watch them grow and mature in our family farm business.
Do you have any recommended recipes or surprisingly awesome ways to use your products?
Our cast iron okra (prepared by daughter Grace) is pretty awesome and Dad's green egg smoked anything always tops the charts. We frequently post these on facebook and pass them out at Markets.
What do you love about the Brookhaven Farmers Market?
I am a new vendor so I don't yet have any onsite experience but I will say that I love the fact that it is another great neighborhood farmers market that is promoting local and healthy food. We have followed a bit over the last couple of years and are EXCITED to become a vendor!
